The Diploma in Film & Television Production (DFTV) is a two-year program designed to
equip graduates with essential production and technical skills for the dynamic film and
media industries. The program’s core aim is to develop confident, adaptable filmmakers
who are well versed in all aspects of production and proficient in navigating emerging
digital technologies.
DFTV emphasizes practical, hands-on experience from the outset. While some units
may revisit similar concepts, this deliberate repetition ensures mastery through extensive
project work and numerous shoots. This practical focus directly addresses shortcomings
often found in other programs, ensuring our graduates are exceptionally well prepared
for the industry.
This program also responds to the ongoing need for skilled professionals in Film,
Television and general mass communication. Graduates are well positioned for selfemployment as content creators, and for roles within media houses and diverse digital
communication environments.
This Diploma in Film & Television Production aims to:
1 Equip students with the foundational theoretical knowledge and essential practical
skills in film and television production.
2 Cultivate graduates who are masters of both the creative and technical aspects critical
to success in today’s media industries.
3 Develop critical thinkers and adaptive content creators ready to excel in the dynamic
film and television landscape.
By the end of this Diploma course, graduates will be able to:
1 Produce compelling film and television content suitable for diverse platforms.
2 Apply core film and television production concepts to analyze and execute production
projects effectively.
3 Demonstrate proficiency in technical operations, including camera, sound, lighting,
editing, and various digital tools used in film and television production.
4 Critically assess the social, cultural, and economic impact of film and television on
society
To be eligible for the DFTV program, you must meet one of the following criteria:
a) A minimum of C- (minus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE)
exam, with at least a C- (minus) in either English or Kiswahili.
OR
b) A D+ (plus) in the KCSE exam, along with a one-year certificate in Film & Television
or a related field from a recognized institution.
OR
c) Any other qualification that our institution officially recognizes as equivalent to the
above.
