Two students from D.M.B.T.I. Digital Media and Broadcasting Training Institute (DMBTI) have secured valuable industry attachment opportunities through an initiative involving the Media Council of Kenya (MCK), marking another important milestone in their journey towards becoming professional media practitioners.
The two Journalism and Media Studies students have been placed in established media environments where they will gain practical experience and exposure to the day-to-day operations of professional broadcasting.
One of the students has been attached to Tuliza FM, while the second student has secured an attachment opportunity at G.G.V FM.
The placements will provide the students with an opportunity to translate the knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom into practical media work.
During the attachment period, the students will have an opportunity to gain experience in areas such as news gathering, reporting, interviewing, programme production, radio presentation, research, script writing, newsroom operations, media ethics and digital content creation.
The experience is expected to expose the students to the professional standards, deadlines and responsibilities involved in modern broadcasting.
The attachment opportunity through the Media Council of Kenya provides the students with an important platform to interact with professional journalists and broadcasters while gaining a deeper understanding of the media industry.
For aspiring journalists, exposure to an actual newsroom and radio station environment is an important component of professional development.
The experience will also enable the students to build confidence, develop professional networks and understand how theoretical knowledge acquired during training is applied in real-world media production.
DMBTI has continued to place emphasis on practical and industry-oriented training, preparing students for the rapidly changing media and communication landscape.
The institution combines classroom instruction with practical exercises and industry exposure to equip students with skills relevant to journalism, broadcasting and digital media.
Commenting on the achievement, DMBTI Principal Alexander Mutethia congratulated the two students and urged them to approach the attachment with discipline, professionalism and a willingness to learn.
“We are delighted to see our students getting opportunities to interact with the professional media industry. Attachment gives students an opportunity to transform what they have learnt in class into practical skills. We encourage them to be disciplined, ethical, curious and committed throughout the attachment period,” said Mutethia.
He added that industry exposure remains an important part of preparing students for successful careers in the media sector.
The placements at Tuliza FM and G.G.V FM represent an important step in the students’ professional journey.
As they begin their attachment, the students are expected to learn from experienced media practitioners, participate in newsroom and broadcasting activities and build practical skills that will contribute to their future careers.
